Cable provides different television programs aimed at many different audiences. These programs come on a number of channels that provide good television for children, as well as programs for families to watch together.

For a number of years, the cable industry has been at the forefront of efforts to provide parents and caregivers with tools to control and manage the programs that come into their homes.
Many cable set-top boxes allow you to block entire channels. More advanced digital set-top boxes may also allow you to block specific programming based on channel, time and date, rating or title.
The TV ratings system provides information about the content of programs, and can be used in conjunction with the V-chip to automatically block unwanted programs.

The cable industry, in partnership with the National PTA, has developed a media literacy initiative to help parents and children understand and interpret what they see on television and other forms of media. The goal is to provide you with simple and effective methods to examine media critically and make informed decisions about media use.
