Basic VCR Hookup
There are four options from which to choose when hooking up your VCR. Choose from one of the options below:
- Record Any Channel while Watching Any Channel without a Converter Box
- Record Any Channel while Watching Same Channel with
a Converter Box
- Record and Watch Same Channel or Watch Any Non-scrambled Channel while Recording Any Channel with a Converter Box
- Record Any Channel while Watching Any Other Channel
with Two Converter Boxes
1. Record Any Channel while Watching Any Channel without a Converter Box
Connect your VCR to your TV as shown in the diagram below.

- Features:
Allows single event unattended recording.
- Watching
TV: If TV is cable-ready (VCR is off), use TV to select desired
channel. If TV is not cable-ready and your VCR is, select channel 3
or 4 on TV. Place your VCR's TV/VCR switch in "VCR" position, with the
VCR power on. Select desired channel with VCR.
- Recording
with VCR: Select desired channel with VCR. Place VCR in "RECORD"
mode.
- Unattended
Recording: Follow programming instruction in VCR owner's handbook.
- Tape Playback:
Select channel 3 or 4 on TV, depending on the output of the VCR. Place
TV/VCR switch in "VCR" position. Rewind tape, if necessary. Place VCR
in "PLAY" mode.

2. Record
Any Channel while Watching Same Channel with a Converter Box
Connect your VCR to
your TV and converter as shown in the diagram below.

- Features:
Allows full use of the programming features on VCR.
- Watching
TV: Select channel 2, 3 or 4 on TV. Place TV/VCR selector on
VCR in "TV" position. Select desired channel with channel selector.
- Recording
with VCR: Select desired channel with channel selector. Place
VCR in "RECORD" mode. VCR must stay on channel 2, 3 or 4, depending
on your VCR settings. The channel selector operates on at all times.
- Unattended
Recording: Select desired channel with channel selector. Leave
channel selector turned on. Program VCR per the owner's handbook to
record at the desired time. VCR must be on the channel the channel selector
operates on.
- Tape Playback:
Select channel 3 or 4 on TV, depending on the output of the VCR. Place
TV/VCR switch in "VCR" position. Rewind tape, if necessary. Place VCR
in "PLAY" mode.
NOTE: VCR must be on
the channel the channel selector operates on.

3. Record
and Watch Same Channel or Watch Any Non-scrambled Channel while Recording
Any Channel with a Converter Box
Notes:
- For this option
you will need a splitter and an A/B switch (call your local Time Warner
Cable company for information).
- You cannot watch
a scrambled channel (HBO, Showtime, etc.) to which you have subscribed
while you are recording a program on another channel.
Connect your VCR to
your TV and converter as shown in the diagram below.

- Features:
Allows watching of any non-scrambled* channel while recording any channel
and single event unattended recording of any channel.
- Watching
Non-Scrambled TV*: Place A/B switch in "A" position. Select
desired channel on TV.
- Watching
Authorized Scrambled TV*: Place A/B switch in "B" position.
Place TV/VCR selector on VCR in "TV" position. Select channel 2, 3 or
4 on TV. Select desired channel with channel selector.
- Recording
with VCR: Select desired channel with channel selector box.
Leave channel selector turned on. Program VCR per the owner's handbook
to record at the desired time. VCR must be on the channel the channel
selector operates on.
- Tape Playback:
Select channel 3 or 4 on TV. Place A/B switch in "B" position. Place
TV/VCR selector in "VCR" position. Rewind tape, if necessary. Place
VCR in "PLAY" mode.
* Channels 2 through 13 only if not cable-ready.

4. Record Any Channel while Watching Any Other Channel with Two Converter Boxes
Note: For this option you need two converters, a splitter, and an A/B switch.
Connect your VCR to your TV and the converters as shown in the diagram below. Since this configuration
requires two converters, an extra monthly service charge will be added
to your bill.

- Features:
Allows single event unattended recording. Because two channel selectors
are used in this configuration, an extra monthly service charge applies.
- Watching
TV: Select channel 2, 3 or 4 on TV. Place A/B switch in "A"
position. Select desired channel on channel selector "A".
- Recording
with VCR: Select channel 2, 3 or 4 on VCR*. Select desired
channel on channel selector box "B". Place VCR in "RECORD" mode.
- Unattended
Recording: Select desired channel on channel selector "B".
Program VCR per owner's handbook to record at the desired time. VCR
must be on the channel the channel selector operates on.
- Tape Playback:
Select channel 3 or 4 on TV. Place A/B switch in "B" position. Rewind
tape, if necessary. Place VCR in "PLAY" mode. TV/VCR switch may stay
in "VCR" position at all times.
* VCR must be on the channel the channel selector operates on.
